FAQs

How does counselling make a difference?

By talking to someone who is professionally trained to listen without judgement, you will benefit from a genuine and empathic connection. You can share difficult thoughts or feelings in a safe space, secure in the knowledge that your therapist will work ethically, in your best interest, whilst keeping confidential boundaries. It can be at times an enlightening, uncomfortable or even painful process, but by investing in yourself and becoming more self aware you are starting a journey towards self acceptance and feeling more content and at peace with yourself.

What happens next?

If you are interested in booking a session you can enquire via the website or any of the other contact details listed. We can arrange a telephone consultation. If you are happy to go ahead I will send you a short assessment which helps provide me with some basic information about you. I will also send you a contract to read through and once you are ready we can book our first session, either online, face to face or by telephone.

What's the best option for me?

There is no right or wrong answer, it is what you feel most comfortable with and what works best for you in your situation. I have experience whether you choose to work online, by telephone, or face to face, and have received equally good feedback from clients working in all these ways. If accessibility or distance is an issue, online or telephone work is a good solution. If you value the presence of your therapist in the room with you, face to face is for you. Emotional connections can happen whichever way you choose to access therapy.

How many sessions will I need?

The amount or frequency of sessions is up to you. Some people like to come weekly, fortnightly or monthly once they have progressed to a certain level. To gain the most benefit from counselling it is advised to attend regularly once you have made that commitment to yourself.

What if my counsellor can’t help me?

Counsellors recognise their own limits of proficiency. If they feel you would benefit from a different type of counselling, or can signpost you to other services that would be helpful (such as your GP or other health professionals) they will be open and honest with you about this.

What is the cancellation policy?

Life can often be unexpected and understandably cancellations will be necessary from time to time. Please give as much notice as possible to cancel or rearrange sessions, minimum 24hrs, and I will endeavour to do the same. Any sessions cancelled with less than 24 hours notice will incur a 50% charge.

What happens with my information?

Anything you say during the sessions is confidential. There are limits to confidentiality which apply if there is risk of serious harm to yourself or others*. I would usually talk to you first before contacting an outside organisation. I may make short factual notes about your sessions to aid my work. I regularly meet with my supervisor to discuss client work, this is to enable best practice. Any client information mentioned is anonymous. Your data is always available on request but is kept secure and password protected in line with GDPR requirements. I will also hold an ICO certificate.

*If you mention acts of terrorism, drug trafficking or money laundering, I have to report this to the relevant authority.
