Helen Philpott MBACP

I am a person centred counsellor who passionately believes in the power and transformative value of talking therapy.

Choosing counselling is a big step forward in investing in yourself. Sometimes in life we lose our way, things can feel overwhelming and bleak, and we can often feel there is no one who truly understands us, or listens without judging and giving advice.

That’s where counselling can make a difference. A counsellor is trained to sit alongside you and feel those feelings with you, supporting you and holding a safe space to process difficult thoughts.

The path forward may look dark and you feel unsure of the direction, but your counsellor is there to guide you safely, pointing out any blind spots along the way.

Person Centred (non - directive) Counselling

This modality was created by Carl Rogers. There is a strong belief that every individual on some level knows what is best for them, and is the expert of their own story. Person centred counselling is about empowering people to reach their potential, whatever that may be.

Rogers used an analogy of a potato in his cellar. Even when placed in unfavourable conditions, the potato would still grow shoots and stretch towards whatever source of dim light there was.

“Thank you for everything over these past 6 months, and although I didn’t speak much on why I was there, you’ve helped me overcome so much more and I’ll be forever grateful for that. It’s been a pleasure meeting you and I wish you all the best……”
